Standing with CWA in the Fight for Affordable Healthcare and Strong Benefits

Today, I was proud to stand in solidarity with members of the Communications Workers of America (CWA) at their rally in Trenton, where workers, union leaders, and advocates came together to demand access to affordable healthcare and the benefits that working families deserve.

This event was especially meaningful to me because my connection to CWA extends beyond politics. Several members of my family are proud union members, and I have had the privilege of working alongside CWA in a professional capacity throughout my career. Their commitment to protecting workers' rights, advocating for fair treatment, and fighting for economic security has made a lasting impact on countless families across New Jersey.

As a candidate for Essex County Commissioner, I believe that every worker deserves access to quality healthcare, fair wages, and benefits that allow them to support themselves and their families with dignity. The issues being championed by CWA are not just labor issues—they are community issues. When workers have access to affordable healthcare and strong benefits, our families are stronger, our communities are healthier, and our economy is more resilient.

I was also proud to attend alongside my fellow Democratic nominees for Essex County Commissioner. Together, we recognize the important role organized labor plays in building a stronger and more equitable future for all residents of Essex County and New Jersey.

Throughout history, unions have been at the forefront of advancing workplace protections, expanding economic opportunity, and ensuring that working people have a voice in decisions that affect their lives. Today's rally served as a powerful reminder that those fights continue, and that solidarity remains one of the strongest tools workers have.

I am grateful to the members and leaders of CWA for their advocacy, their partnership, and their unwavering commitment to working families. I look forward to continuing to stand with labor as we work toward a future where every resident has the opportunity to thrive.

In solidarity,

Medinah E. Muhammad
Democratic Nominee for Essex County Commissioner, District 3
