My Plans for Essex County

Essex County is home to vibrant communities, hardworking families, small businesses, dedicated community servants, and a new generation of leaders. As Essex County Commissioner, I will work to build a county where every resident has the opportunity to thrive, regardless of their zip code, income, age, or background.

My vision for Essex County is rooted in economic opportunity, environmental justice, strong infrastructure, support for working families, investment in our young people, and a county government that listens and delivers.

I believe government works best when it is accessible, accountable, and connected to the people it serves. I will bring my experience in public service, government affairs, and community leadership to the Board of County Commissioners and work collaboratively to deliver meaningful results for residents across District 3 and Essex County.

Advancing Equitable Economic Development and Creating Good Jobs

Economic development should work for everyone, not just a select few. I will advocate for responsible economic development that creates good jobs, strengthens local businesses, expands the tax base, and improves quality of life for residents. Development should be inclusive, sustainable, and rooted in the needs and voices of the communities where it takes place.

Essex County should be a place where residents can build careers, start businesses, and create generational wealth. I will work with public, private, and community partners to attract responsible investment while prioritizing local hiring and ensuring that residents benefit from the growth happening in their communities. Creating opportunity means making sure our residents have access to the education, training, transportation, and workforce resources necessary to compete for good-paying jobs.

Supporting Working-Class Families and Advancing Pay Equity

Working families are the backbone of Essex County, yet too many residents are struggling with the rising costs of housing, childcare, transportation, healthcare, and everyday necessities.

As Commissioner, I will advocate for policies that strengthen economic security and make Essex County more affordable and accessible for working families. I remain deeply committed to advancing pay equity and economic fairness. A person's ability to earn a living should not be limited by their gender, race, or background. We must continue working to close wage gaps, expand access to economic opportunity, and ensure that people who work hard have a fair opportunity to succeed. County government should also lead by example by supporting fair wages, equitable workplace policies, and pathways to economic mobility.

Supporting Minority,Women, Veteran, and Small Businesses

Small businesses are the backbone of our local economy and an essential part of the character and vitality of our communities.

I will work to ensure that minority-owned, women-owned, veteran-owned, and other small businesses have equitable access to county contracts, technical assistance, financing resources, and opportunities to grow.

Too often, entrepreneurs face unnecessary barriers when trying to navigate government systems or compete for public contracts. I will advocate for making those processes more accessible and transparent while strengthening partnerships that help local businesses succeed. When small businesses thrive, they create jobs, strengthen neighborhoods, and help build generational wealth. They are the backbone of our local economy.

Investing in Our Youth and Expanding Workforce Development

Our young people deserve every opportunity to succeed. If elected, I will be one of the youngest members of the Board of Commissioners, and with that comes a great responsibility to support investments into our youth. 

I will prioritize investments in youth programming that provide safe spaces, mentorship, enrichment, leadership development, and pathways to meaningful employment. Young people should have access to opportunities that help them discover their talents and prepare for their futures.

Workforce development must also connect residents to real opportunities. I will advocate for stronger pipelines between education, vocational training, apprenticeships, internships, and employment. Our county should work to ensure residents have the skills needed for today's economy and the careers of tomorrow.

Building a Strong, Effective, and Efficient Education System

A strong education system is one of the most important investments we can make in the future of Essex County. While the county does not oversee local K–12 school districts, Essex County has an important role to play in supporting educational opportunity through our county vocational and technical schools and Essex County College.

If elected as your County Commissioner, I will advocate for a strong, effective, and efficient county education system that prepares students for success in college, careers, and life. That means supporting high-quality career and technical education, expanding opportunities in the skilled trades, and ensuring students have access to pathways that lead to family-sustaining careers.

Our vocational and technical schools serve as powerful engines of economic mobility by connecting students with hands-on learning, industry-recognized credentials, apprenticeships, internships, and employers. I will work to strengthen partnerships between our schools, county college, labor unions, businesses, and workforce development organizations so that students and residents can see a clear pathway from education to opportunity.

As your candidate for Essex County Commissioner, I also believe in expanding opportunities for adults and working residents who want to learn new skills, change careers, or advance in the workforce. Education should be a lifelong pathway to opportunity, and Essex County should ensure that residents have access to the tools and training they need to succeed in a changing economy. Our goal should be an education and workforce system that is accessible, innovative, responsive to the needs of our communities, and connected to the economic opportunities of the future.

Standing with Organized Labor and Protecting Workers' Rights

I believe in the dignity of work and the power of organized labor to create stronger communities and a stronger middle class.

Unions have played a critical role in fighting for fair wages, safe working conditions, healthcare, retirement security, a fair work week, the right to rest, and economic opportunity for generations of workers. I will always stand with organized labor and support workers' right to organize, collectively bargain, and advocate for better working conditions.

As your County Commissioner, I will work to strengthen partnerships with labor organizations and support workforce development programs that connect residents to union apprenticeships, skilled trades, and sustaining careers. Furthermore, I oppose efforts to undermine workers' rights, weaken collective bargaining, or privatize essential public services at the expense of workers and taxpayers.

Our economic development strategy should create good union jobs and sustainable career pathways, not simply jobs that leave working families struggling to make ends meet.

Building Stronger, More Resilient Infrastructure

Strong infrastructure is the foundation of thriving communities.

I will advocate for equitable and strategic investments in roads, bridges, public facilities, transportation, and other critical infrastructure throughout Essex County. Every community deserves safe, reliable, and well-maintained infrastructure.

But we must also prepare for the future, and that means  making investments into infrastructure designed with climate resilience and sustainability in mind. We need to prepare our communities for more frequent extreme weather events because our planet is changing, and we must also ensure that historically underserved neighborhoods are not left behind in the process.

I will work to advance infrastructure solutions that make our communities safer, more accessible, more connected, and more resilient. I will listen to the experts and advocate for communities impacted the most. Our communities should not have to choose between economic opportunity and a healthy environment. We can, and must, create a future where clean communities and good jobs go hand in hand.

As someone who understands the importance of environmental justice, I will work to advance policies that reduce our carbon footprint, support clean energy, improve air quality, and prepare our communities for the impacts of climate change. Our children deserve to grow up in communities where they can breathe clean air, play safely, and enjoy a healthy environment.

Protecting and Expanding Parks and Public Spaces

Our parks and public spaces are essential to the health and wellbeing of our communities, especially in our urban centers. I will advocate for continued investment in Essex County's parks, recreational facilities, trails, and open spaces so they are safe, accessible, maintained, and available to residents of all ages and abilities.

Parks should be more than places to visit; they should be places where families gather, children play, seniors stay active, and communities come together. I will support efforts to expand recreational programming, improve accessibility, protect green space, and ensure that residents across Essex County have equitable access to high-quality parks and public spaces.

Supporting Seniors and Vulnerable Residents

Our seniors and most vulnerable residents deserve dignity, respect, and access to the resources they need to live healthy and fulfilling lives.

As your County Commissioner, I will advocate for strong county programs that support seniors, individuals with disabilities, families experiencing housing instability, and residents who need access to healthcare, social services, food assistance, and other essential resources.

Government services should be easy to understand and easy to access. I will support stronger outreach and partnerships that ensure residents know what resources are available and can get the help they need without having to navigate unnecessary barriers.

Promoting Public Safety Through Prevention, Opportunity, and Partnership

Every resident deserves to feel safe in their home and community, and that starts with effective public safety. This requires us to invest in prevention, opportunity, community engagement, and the resources that address the root causes of violence before it happens. I will support strategies that strengthen relationships between law enforcement and the communities they serve while promoting transparency, accountability, and trust.

At the same time, we must invest in youth programs, mental health resources, workforce development, education, and other initiatives that help prevent violence and create pathways to opportunity. Safer communities are built when residents, community organizations, public officials, law enforcement, and service providers work together. As your County Commissioner, I will work closely with our Essex County Sheriff's Office, Prosecutor’s Office, and local and state law enforcement entities to ensure our communities are safe and we are working proactively to reduce and prevent crime. 

Bringing County Government Directly to the People

Government should not feel distant or inaccessible. As your County Commissioner, I will prioritize listening directly to the residents of District 3 through regular community listening sessions and town halls. I want to hear from residents about what is working, what is not, and what they believe county government should be doing differently.

As your County Commissioner, I will also work to bring county services directly into our communities. Residents should not have to travel across the county or navigate complicated systems to access the services and resources available to them. I will advocate for bringing county agencies, service providers, and informational resources directly into District 3 through community events, resource fairs, mobile services, and neighborhood-based outreach.

My commitment is simple: I will listen, I will show up, and I will work to make county government more accessible to the people it serves.

Being Responsible Stewards of Taxpayer Dollars

Public service is a responsibility and public trust is crucial. As a current public servant, I understand that every dollar spent by county government ultimately comes from the people we serve. I believe government must be both ambitious in its goals and responsible in how it manages public resources.

As Commissioner, I will be a strong steward of taxpayer dollars and advocate for fiscal responsibility, accountability, and transparency in county government. That means asking tough questions about how taxpayer dollars are being spent, evaluating whether programs are delivering meaningful results, and ensuring that public investments are aligned with the needs of our communities.

Fiscal responsibility does not mean refusing to invest in our communities. It means making smart, strategic investments that produce measurable results and improve residents' quality of life. As your County Commissioner, I will support efforts to identify efficiencies, eliminate unnecessary waste, strengthen oversight, and ensure that county resources are being used effectively. I believe we can invest in infrastructure, education, workforce development, public safety, environmental sustainability, and essential services while remaining thoughtful and responsible stewards of public funds.

Taxpayers deserve to know where their money is going, why it is being spent, and what results they can expect. I will work to ensure that county government lives up to that standard.

Leading with Transparency, Accessibility, and Integrity

Leadership is not about having all the answers. It is about being willing to listen, ask the right questions, and do the work necessary to find solutions. As Commissioner, I will be an accessible and engaged leader who is present in the community and responsive to the people I represent. I will hold regular listening sessions, create opportunities for residents to share their concerns, and work to ensure that county government is accessible to everyone.

I will lead with transparency and will not be afraid to ask tough questions, even when doing so may be uncomfortable. Residents deserve elected officials who are willing to examine how decisions are made, challenge the status quo when necessary, and demand accountability from government.

My approach to leadership is rooted in dignity, integrity, collaboration, and service, and I will treat every resident with respect, regardless of whether we agree on every issue. I will listen before I act, seek out diverse perspectives, and work collaboratively to find solutions. Most importantly, I will remember that public office is not about me. It is about the people I am elected to serve. I will lead with an open door, an open mind, and a commitment to doing the right thing, even when it is not the easiest thing. 

My Commitment to District 3 and Essex County

My vision for Essex County is about building a county where working families can afford to live, young people can see a future, students have access to meaningful educational and career pathways, seniors can age with dignity, small businesses can thrive, workers can earn a fair wage, our environment is protected, taxpayers can trust their government, and every community has the opportunity to succeed.

I will bring a collaborative, accessible, and community-centered approach to the Board of County Commissioners. I am running to serve you, and I believe the best way to serve is to listen, show up, ask tough questions, work hard, and deliver results.

I will lead with dignity and integrity, remain accountable to the people of District 3, and work every day to build a stronger, more equitable, and more prosperous Essex County for generations to come.
