Vote by Mail

Voting by mail is a convenient option for registered New Jersey voters who prefer to cast their ballot from home. You can apply for a Vote-by-Mail ballot through your County Clerk, and once you receive your ballot, carefully follow the instructions included with it. Be sure to completely fill out your ballot, sign the certificate where required, and properly seal your ballot before returning it.

For the November 3, 2026, General Election, if you are requesting your ballot by mail, your application must be received by your County Clerk by October 27, 2026. You may also apply in person at your County Clerk's office until 3:00 P.M. on November 2, 2026, the day before the election.

Returning Your Vote-by-Mail Ballot

There are three ways to return your completed vote by mail ballot:

  1. By mail via the United States Postal Service 
  2.  Through a secure ballot drop box (recommended)
  3. Directly to your County Board of Elections

If you return your ballot using a secure drop box or deliver it to your County Board of Elections, it must be received before 8:00 P.M. on Election Day, Tuesday, November 3, 2026. Vote-by-Mail ballots cannot be returned to an early voting location or your regular Election Day polling place.

If you return your ballot by mail, it must be postmarked on or before 8:00 P.O. on Tuesday, November 3, 2026 and received by your County Board of Elections no later than November 9, 2026. Because postal delivery times can vary, it is strongly recommended that you mail your ballot several days before Election Day rather than waiting until the last minute or use a secure drop box location.

Taking the time to complete, sign, seal, and return your ballot properly, and allowing enough time for it to be delivered, can help ensure your ballot is processed according to New Jersey's election requirements.
