Meet Medinah Muhammad
I’m Medinah Muhammad — a lifelong Essex County resident, public servant, and community advocate. I’m proud to call East Orange home, and I am running for Essex County Commissioner in District 3 because I believe the best leadership starts with knowing the people and communities you serve.
Public service has been the thread running through my career. From county government to the New Jersey Legislature and the Governor’s Office, I have worked on issues that affect people’s everyday lives, from economic development and affordable housing to criminal justice reform, gun safety, and expanding opportunity.
Today, I have the privilege of serving on the East Orange Board of Education, where I advocate for strong schools, student success, and opportunities for families. I’ve also served in leadership roles within Essex County and the New Jersey Democratic State Committee.
But before any title or position, I am a daughter, a neighbor, a mentor, and an Essex County resident who believes deeply in the place that raised me.
I know what it means to grow up here. I know the pride we have in our neighborhoods, the challenges our families face, and the incredible potential that exists across our communities.
That is why I’m running.
I believe Essex County deserves leadership that listens, shows up, works hard, and remains accountable to the people. I’m ready to bring my experience, energy, and deep connection to this community to the work of building a stronger Essex County.
This is home. This is the community that shaped me. And I’m ready to serve it.
