Building Momentum Together: Joining Blue Wave NJ in Support of Rebecca Bennett for NJ’s CD7

This weekend, I had the pleasure of joining community leaders, volunteers, and supporters at a Blue Wave New Jersey annual barbecue event. This year’s event was in support of Rebecca Bennett's campaign for Congress to defeat Congressman Tom Kean in New Jersey’s 7th Congressional District.

t was an inspiring afternoon filled with meaningful conversations about the future of New Jersey, the importance of civic engagement, and the work ahead to ensure every community has strong, effective representation in Washington.

As a candidate for Essex County Commissioner, I know that local and federal government are deeply connected. Many of the issues that matter most to our residents—including infrastructure improvements, transportation, economic development, affordable housing, public safety, environmental protection, healthcare, and access to federal resources—depend on strong partnerships between our local communities and our representatives in Congress.

That is why elections at every level matter.

Rebecca Bennett has demonstrated a commitment to public service and to fighting for the needs of New Jersey families. As one of the nation's most competitive congressional races, the outcome of New Jersey's 7th Congressional District will have implications not only for our state but for the direction of our country.

It was inspiring to hear Rebecca’s story - a mother of two, a veteran, wife, and a selfless public servant - who is putting her hat in the ring to fight for New Jersey’s residents. Her words were inspiring, and I wish her complete success in her election this November.

The event also included remarks from Congresswoman Nellie Pou, who represents New Jersey’s 9th Congressional District. Her race for her seat to return to Congress has also been labeled as one Republicans are eyeing to flip, which could also change our country. 

Events like this remind us that democracy is powered by people. Volunteers knocking on doors, neighbors talking with neighbors, and community members showing up to support candidates they believe in are all essential to building a stronger democracy.

I was grateful for the opportunity to connect with fellow advocates, elected officials, and supporters who are committed to creating opportunities for every resident and strengthening communities across New Jersey. It is a pleasure to share this space, and I thankful to Marcia Marley and BlueWave New Jersey for hosting such an impactful event.

As we continue this campaign, I remain committed to listening, engaging, and working alongside residents throughout Essex County. Together, we can build a county that is safer, more affordable, more equitable, and full of opportunity for everyone.
