Labor Power Is Voter Power: Kicking Off Early Voting Across Essex County

Yesterday, I joined CWA District 1, IBEW, the Essex-West Hudson Labor Council, AFL-CIO, former Assemblyman and union president Tom Giblin, Congresswoman Analilia Mejia, and my running mates for a canvass launch focused on connecting directly with voters and encouraging union members and working families to make their voices heard at the ballot box.

The timing could not have been more important, as today is the first day of early voting in Essex County.

Our labor unions have long been at the forefront of the fight for fair wages, safe working conditions, affordable healthcare, retirement security, and dignity for working people. The progress generations of workers have fought to achieve reminds us that collective action can make a difference in people's lives, but our work does not stop at the bargaining table. It continues at the ballot box.

When working people vote, they help shape the decisions that affect their families, their neighborhoods, and their futures. That is why connecting with union members and encouraging voter participation is such an important part of this campaign.

I am grateful to CWA District 1, IBEW, the Essex-West Hudson Labor Council, AFL-CIO, Assemblyman TomGiblin, Congresswoman Analilia Mejia, and everyone who joined us in this effort. Our collective commitment to engaging voters demonstrates the power of organizing and the importance of meeting people where they are.

As Donald Trump works to suppress votes, New Jersey has made voting more accessible by providing registered voters with the opportunity to cast their ballots in person before Election Day. Early voting gives residents greater flexibility to fit voting into their busy schedules, whether they are balancing work, raising children, caring for loved ones, ormanaging other responsibilities.

For the 2026 General Election, in-person early voting runs from Saturday, October 24, through Sunday, November 1.

Here is what voters need to know:

  • Dates: October 24–November 1, 2026

  • Monday through Saturday: 10:00 a.m.–8:00 p.m.

  • Sunday: 10:00 a.m.–6:00 p.m.

  • Appointments: Not required

  • Where to vote: Registered voters may use any designated early voting location within their county of residence.

Voters can find their county's designated early voting locations through the New Jersey Division of Elections.

If you have already received a vote-by-mail ballot, follow the instructions provided with your ballot and make sure you return it properly. Do not leave your voting plan to the last minute.

As the Democratic nominee for Essex County Commissioner in District 3, I remain committed to knocking on doors, listening to voters and earning every vote. From East Orange and Orange to South Orange and Newark's West Ward, our communities deserve leadership that listens, advocates, and works to deliver results. This campaign is about economic opportunity, strong communities, responsible government, and ensuring that every resident has a voice in the decisions that shape Essex County's future.

I am proud to stand alongside labor leaders, elected officials, community advocates, and dedicated volunteers who understand that democracy requires participation. I am proud to be endorsed by these incredible labor organizations, and for me, even when an election may appear settled, every voter deserves to be heard, and every vote is an opportunity to affirm the future we want for our communities. I am running to serve, and I am committed to earning the trust of the residents of District 3.

Make a plan to vote. Encourage your family, friends, neighbors, and coworkers to participate. Let’s turn organizing into action!
