Investing in Our Youth, Strengthening Our Community

This weekend, I had the privilege of attending the 3rd Annual Spirit of Taha Robinson Scholarship Award Ceremonyat Elmwood Park in East Orange. Hosted by Street Maintenance, Inc., in partnership with the family and friends of Taha Robinson, the event celebrated three remarkable young people whose dedication to education and personal growth earned them scholarships in honor of Taha's legacy.

Congratulations to this year's scholarship recipients Yamir Jones, Madison McZorn, and Aiden Moncrieffe.

Your hard work, resilience, and commitment to your future are an inspiration to our entire community. I wish each of you continued success as you pursue your educational and career aspirations.

As your candidate for Essex County Commissioner, I believe that one of the greatest investments we can make is in our young people. Organizations like Street Maintenance, Inc. demonstrate what is possible when communities come together to provide mentorship, guidance, and positive opportunities for our youth. Their mission to reduce violence, decrease recidivism, and promote public safety through mentorship and community engagement is making a meaningful difference throughout East Orange and beyond.

Creating safer neighborhoods requires more than enforcement alone—it requires investing in people. When we connect young people with mentors, educational opportunities, and positive role models, we help build stronger families, healthier communities, and brighter futures.

It was also a pleasure to join Assemblywoman Carmen Morales and East Orange Third Ward Councilman Bergson Leneus in recognizing these outstanding scholars and celebrating the impact of this important community initiative.

As County Commissioner, I will continue advocating for partnerships that expand educational opportunities, support youth development programs, strengthen community organizations, and ensure every young person has the resources they need to succeed. Together, we can create an Essex County where every child has the opportunity to thrive.
