We Did It: Thank You, District 3

Tonight, my heart is overflowing with gratitude.

Together, we made history.

To every voter across East Orange, Orange, South Orange, and Newark's West Ward who cast a ballot and placed your trust in me, thank you. Thank you for believing in our vision, our values, and our commitment to building a stronger, more equitable future for Essex County. This victory belongs to all of us.

This campaign was never about one person. It was about neighbors talking to neighbors, communities coming together, and everyday people proving that their voices matter. It was about showing that democracy works best when people participate.

One of the most inspiring parts of this election was the incredible voter turnout. For this election, turnout was projected to be approximately 7,500 voters across our district. Instead, more than 9,500 voters—and counting—showed up and made their voices heard. That extraordinary participation sends a powerful message: our communities are engaged, invested, and ready to shape the future.

To every volunteer who knocked on doors, made phone calls, sent text messages, hosted events, distributed literature, attended rallies, prayed for our campaign, and encouraged others to vote, thank you. Your dedication powered this movement. You gave your time, energy, and talents because you believed that our district deserved leadership that listens, serves, and fights for working families.

To my campaign team, there are not enough words to express my appreciation. Campaigns are built on sacrifice, long days, late nights, and unwavering faith. Through every challenge, you stood beside me. You believed in this campaign when the path ahead wasn't always clear, and your commitment helped turn a vision into reality. This victory belongs to each of you.

I am especially grateful to my family, friends, supporters, community leaders, labor partners, and everyone who stood with me throughout this journey. Your encouragement carried me through difficult moments and reminded me why this work matters.

As we celebrate this victory, I am mindful that an election is not the finish line—it is the starting point. The real work begins now. The trust you have placed in me is something I will never take for granted. I remain committed to fighting for working families, protecting voting rights, expanding economic opportunity, supporting our seniors and young people, and ensuring that every resident has a voice in the decisions that affect their lives.

Tonight, we celebrate. Tomorrow, we get back to work for November and for the betterment of District 3.

From the bottom of my heart, thank you for believing in me, thank you for believing in our campaign, and thank you for proving that when our communities show up, organize, and vote, anything is possible.

With gratitude,

Medinah Muhammad
Democratic Nominee, Essex County Commissioner
